Why Visit Rome?

Rome is an open-air museum where ancient history meets modern Italian life. From the Colosseum to the Vatican, every street corner tells a story spanning nearly 3,000 years. Add incredible food, charming piazzas, and that unmistakable Roman atmosphere, and you have one of the world's most captivating cities.

Top Highlights

  • Colosseum — The iconic amphitheater of ancient Rome
  • Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel — Michelangelo's masterpiece ceiling
  • St. Peter's Basilica — The world's largest church
  • Pantheon — Perfectly preserved ancient Roman temple (free entry)
  • Trevi Fountain — Toss a coin and make a wish
  • Trastevere — Charming neighborhood for evening strolls and dining

Best Time to Visit

Visit Rome in April to May or September to October for ideal weather (18-25°C) and manageable crowds. Summer (June-August) is hot (35°C+) and very crowded. Winter is quiet and affordable, but some attractions have reduced hours.

Practical Tips

  • Getting around: Walk as much as possible — Rome's historic center is compact. Use buses or metro for longer distances.
  • Skip the line: Pre-book tickets for the Colosseum, Vatican Museums, and Borghese Gallery. The lines can be 2+ hours.
  • Water: Free drinking water from Rome's many "nasoni" (little nose) fountains throughout the city.
  • Dress code: Cover shoulders and knees when visiting churches (including St. Peter's and the Vatican).
  • Dinner timing: Romans eat late. Restaurants fill up around 8:30-9:00 PM.

Food & Drink

Roman cuisine is simple but extraordinary:

  • Cacio e Pepe — Pasta with pecorino cheese and black pepper. Deceptively simple, incredibly delicious.
  • Carbonara — The authentic version uses guanciale (cured pork cheek), egg, pecorino, and black pepper. No cream!
  • Supplì — Fried rice balls with mozzarella. The perfect street food snack.
  • Gelato — Look for "produzione propria" (made in-house) and natural colors.
  • Espresso — Stand at the bar like a local. A coffee at the bar costs about €1.

Getting There

Leonardo da Vinci Airport (FCO/Fiumicino) is Rome's main airport. The Leonardo Express train takes 32 minutes non-stop to Roma Termini station (€14).
